If you could only see, The beast you've made of me. August was an extremely warm month, much warmer than Abilene preferred. She liked the cooler months, such as November and October. The crunch of the dead leaves beneath her feet, the brisk autumn wind. That's what she liked. She liked to wear sweaters and leggings and scarves. In the summer months she couldn't help but feel exposed. Abilene never went swimming, she tried to wear things that covered her arms and back. She felt so insecure with the scars, and there was nothing she could do to mask them. Her eyes had a hard time adjusting to the harsh sunlight as she stepped outside. There was a slight breeze, but too warm for her taste. Abilene trudged forward, past some of the other students as she made her way to a soft spot of grass on the grounds. She held the book tight against her chest as she walked, still squinting in the sunlight. Tripping up on an untied lace, she let out an aggravated sigh and carelessly dropped her book to the ground. She bent down and haphazardly tied it in a combination of a bow and a knot. Abilene was easily frustrated with simple little things like untied shoes. She scooped up the book again and continued walking, her eyes focused on her destination. Finally, she sat and opened her book. The words were familiar and the pages old, but she didn't mind. Anything was better than sitting alone in her room trying to wash the taste of the potion out of her mouth. It seemed that the lingering taste of Wolfsbane stayed with her from full moon to full moon. She had been a werewolf for a little over three years now, and Abilene was sure that she would be used to the taste by now. Sadly, the taste seemed to get worse every time. "Whatever." She muttered, pushing the thought to the back of her mind and turning her focus to the book in front of her. Outfit.

I Might Have A Reckless Streak At Least A Country-Mile Wide If You're Gonna Run With Me It's Gonna Be A Wild Ride Ah, the feel of the last few lingering days of the August summer. Sure, having to return back to Hogwarts a week early than scheduled had been a pain to say the least, but it was worth it since the actual lessons did not begin until the following week. The professors and headmaster of the school had decided to experiment with allowing the students to come back to Hogwarts early to allow the new first years a full week to learn the layout of the castle so they would not get lost within the halls on their first true day of classes. All in all it was a good concept, even if most of the upper years did not agree with it. But than again, there was really no reason for the upper years to complain since no homework was being dealt out this week and the professors were a little bit more lax than normal.
Having made his way down from Gryffindor Tower, Velkan had yet to decide what he had plan for day. Perhaps a light lunch before heading down to the Quidditch Pitch for some fresh air. Or he could go up to the library after lunch and get a head start on some of his up-coming lessons. As he pondered this, he passed by a window and carelessly took a glance out before continueing on his way. Upon reaching the main floor of the castle, he took a quick peek into the Great Hall. Seeing that were a few students sitting and enjoying their lunch, Velkan decided to join those at the Gryffindor table. Settling himself in, he ate a single turkey and american cheese sandwich, some chips, and two pickle speares within a span of ten minutes. Grabbing an apple for desert, he left his spot from the table with no words to his fellow dorm mates.
Just as he had passed the Great Hall doors, a familiar scent danced across his nose. A scent that he was fairly acquianted with back home in Sibiu, Romania. A werewolf and a female one at that. And this female's scent was certainly not of his twin sister. 'Interesting,' he thought to himself, 'Now which female in this school could possibly be a wolf?' All thoughts of going to the Quidditch Pitch or library had left his mind. He was now determined to unmask this new female wolf. Letting the beast inside of him had the reigns, Velkan ventured out onto the Hogwart Grounds. Soaking up the sun as he went, his skin reflecting some of his previous transformation scars, Velkan came upon a younger year female reading a book of some sorts. Tilting his head of to the left slightly due to his curiosity of this new wolf, he confidently approached her.
"Good read?" he asked as he took the oppertunity to have take a seat upon the ground a few feet away from her. Rubbing his apple against his black wife-beater, he took a solid bite and raised an eyebrow at her. A soft breeze than fluttered across the grounds. The girl's scent being blown his way. 'Yep,' he thought to himself, 'Definitely a she-wolf.' Taking another bite from his apple, he took the chance to take in his surroundings. Not many students were out and about. Such a shame in his opinion as the days of summer were slowly dwindling to an end.

A growl rumbled in the back of her throat as Abilene frowned at her book. The sun was inescapable, the heat unbearable, and the sheer fabric over her arms did little to mask the marred flesh beneath. Needless to say, she was uncomfortable.
There were so many things wrong with her family. On her dad's side, he was a metamorphagus and her grandfather a werewolf. Her mother's side was infected with Veela blood, something Abilene couldn't escape. It seemed no matter what way she turned, her genetics were screwed over. Big time. She often found herself thinking of this when she had nothing better to do. The book was right there, and no matter how hard she tried to concentrate, she just couldn't.
Abilene opened the book and moved her eyes along with the words, at least acting as if she was reading. She thought she could trick herself into actually doing it, but that never seemed to work.
Just then she caught the scent of something eerily unfamiliar, and yet familiar at the same time. Her eyes flickered from the book just as an unfamiliar voice spoke to her. Abilene shut the book and looked at him intently. Why was he here? Why did he smell like that?
"Trying to get into it, I guess. Not very easy with so many distractions." She replied, drawing her legs in and sitting cross-legged on the grass. Abilene continued to look at him. He was evidently older, and probably not from Ravenclaw.
She felt oddly uncomfortable in the breeze, and pushed her hair behind her ears and opened the book again. "Enjoying the weather?" Abilene asked, her eyes on the text instead of the boy.

I Might Have A Reckless Streak At Least A Country-Mile Wide If You're Gonna Run With Me It's Gonna Be A Wild Ride Turning his attention back to the younger female when she had finally decided to voice her opinion on the book she was reading, Velkan gave a slight nod of his head in acknowledgement. However, her words were slightly confusing to him. How could she be distracted from her reading? The only distraction that was near her was him. And he had only arrived a mere few seconds ago. There was no one about this area of the grounds either. So what else was there that could be distracting her? "If I might be so bold to ask, what distractions are you speaking of?" he inquired, "Surely the only distraction now is me, but you seem to be referring to other objects or perhaps thoughts. Care to share?"
Taking the last few good bites of his apple, Velkan set the core off to the side and lowered himself onto his back and elbows in a relaxed position. Cocking his head to get a side view glance at the she-wolf next to him, he began to study her features and commit them to his memory. Her long blond wavy curls and her bright eyes. The semi-slim built of her body and an estimated height guess of about five foot five inches to five foot seven inches. All this information he would use later for future references. Being drawn out of his thoughts, he raised an eyebrow at her question upon the weather. Indeed I am enjoying the wonderful weather," he replied, "I love a pleasing hot summer and the warm summer nights. Makes for good fun every now and again. I'm Velkan Silivasi by the way."

She didn't like questions. Abilene always found herself either knowing the answer straight away or not, she hated the type where she actually had to give a personal answer, or something with opinions. That was not her cup of tea for sure. When he asked her what she meant, she had to draw her eyes away from the book and back to him, surveilling the grounds about them. He was right about not many people being about, which gave her one less thing she could try and blame her distractions on. He wouldn't want to know what she was thinking about anyway. Nobody really ever did, except maybe her dad because he was fascinate with the werewolf disease. All because her grandfather was one. Somebody was bound to end up a werewolf eventually, Abilene just hated that it ended up being her.
"A lot of things. Stuff on my mind," she paused as a breeze blew toward her and she got another nose-full of his scent, "a bad taste in my mouth." Abilene never was quick to jump to conclusions, but if he picked up what she was putting out, he must be a werewolf too. None of her classmates smelled like that, and he didn't smell like he had any Veela blood in him either. It seemed to be a reasonable option.
Velkan Silvasi. It certainly was an odd name. "Lupin. Abilene Lupin, but you can call me Abby I guess." She tried to focus back on the book again, but found herself to be much more intrigued by the mysterious Velkan and why he smelled.

I Might Have A Reckless Streak At Least A Country-Mile Wide If You're Gonna Run With Me It's Gonna Be A Wild Ride Velkan could only let out a polite smile towards the girl he was next to. It was obvious to him that he was dealing with an inexperienced werewolf. Perhaps her family was 'normal' in the respects of the wizarding world. That would certainly make it harder for her to use the extra senses her wolf side had to offer her. Having grown up in a family, well more a pack to say, had its advantages. His father's whold side of the family had been wolves while his mother had been a Pureblood Witch. Of course, his mother now ran with his father and the rest of the family during the nights of the Full Moon, but that was beside the point. Chuckling softly at the comment of thinking of a bad taste in her mouth, Velkan could only assume she was speaking of the Wolfbane's Potion that was meant to keep the human in control during the transformation process. Such as shame that a mere potion could restrain something that was meant to be wild and free. "I'm sorry to hear that," he replied.
Pushing himself up back into a sitting position, Velkan gave his upper body a nice long stretch. His muscles were semi-tight and needed to be loosened. Keeping the majority of his attention on the creature who had deemed herself to be Abilene Lupin, Velkan let a ghost of a smirk slip upon his lips. Lupin. A surname that was often associated with the Latin word Lupus meaning wolf, however in some cases the name Lupin or Lupine was directed more to a group of any leguminous plant of the genus Lupinus of North America, Europe, and Africa, with large spikes of brightly coloured flowers and flattened pods. It was indeed amazing in actually that such a surname could have several different meanings. This fact even could be dealt to actual names of people. Take his name for example; Velkan. It was a Romanian (Slavic) name meaning Brave Wolf or Determined. His middle name was Lucian. So in actuality his name meant Brave Wolf Light or Determined Light. Both of these meanings had suited him quiet well.
"I like the name Abilene better," he stated moments later, "In all honestly, it suits you better than Abby. Abby is so plain and you are anything but plain Abilene." Tilting his head slightly off to the side to take in her reaction, Velkan was waiting for any type of signal, other than the fact that the wind was constantly changing direction giving each of them different chances to catch the smell of the other, that would lead to the invitable question of whether they were alike in terms of their wolf hertiage.

She wasn't sure how she was supposed to react to Velkan. He was smiling and friendly and a lot of things she typically didn't associate with, well, anyone. Most of the month she was in a very moody state, being pessimistic and snarky to almost everyone she encountered. But Abilene didn't feel like she had to be rude to him, or snarky. He had an air about him that she seemed to respect.
He didn't immediately let on that he knew what she was talking about. Sure, she could assume something, but if it didn't come up in their conversation sooner or later something was definitely wrong. At least in her mind. She despised Wolfsbane, but her parents, finding out she was a werewolf, commanded her to use it. She had no way out of it, and the taste was enough to make her sick.
Lupin was a somewhat infamous name around Hogwarts. Remus was not only a professor, but a werewolf and later fired. Not too many professors got fired, but he did. Abilene never met her grandfather, and neither did her dad. He died before he was old enough to interact.
Abilene wasn't born a full-blooded werewolf, rather made into one. Apparently in the distant past, Remus had run-ins with other werewolves and they didn't exactly agree. Her family was tracked for years, and three years ago they finally exacted their revenge. Unfortunately it was Abilene who received it. They smelled Remus in her, and when they attacked her as she walked home from a friend's house they mistook her for Remus in their blind rage. It wasn't until later they realized it was just his grand-daughter. She was practically left to die until her parents found her an hour or so later. The bite marks were wretched, and they knew the outcome. They left her alive for a reason, and now she was infected.
Of course, she didn't tell Velkan any of this, and decided to make a long story short. She didn't say anything about her being special in any sort of way. Abilene knew she was abnormal, and special was just a nicer way of saying it. Instead, she focused more on the subject on her mind. "Remus Lupin, my grandfather, used to teach at Hogwarts." She paused and cocked her head to the side, mirroring his pose. "He was a werewolf."

I Might Have A Reckless Streak At Least A Country-Mile Wide If You're Gonna Run With Me It's Gonna Be A Wild Ride Upon hearing Abilene speak the name of her grandfather, Remus Lupin, Velkan was a bit unsure on how to act. He did not know the depth of Hogwarts teaching staff, but appearently the gal before him was the grand-daughter of a professor. Interesting to say the least. As she stated that her grandfather was a Werewolf, Velkan smirked. So his assumption that Abilene was indeed a wolf was correct. Soon he found himslef wondering about what his twin sister would say and think about Abilene. It was quite appearent that the girl beofre him was not pleased with her situation based on her family's heritage, but that was to be expected. "A werewolf you say," he stated, "Well that is indeed interesting. So the gene is expressive in your family, am I correct?"
He did not want to jump to any quick conclusions. He could only assume that the gene that ran in her family was recessive. Only appearing every now and again unless acted upon by an outside force such as being bitten by another wolf. "I gene is greatly expressed in my father's side of the family," he spoke minutes later, "All of my siblings and myself are wolves. My mother was bitten out of her own free will by my father. Needless to say my mother's pureblood family was not pleased with her decision, but they support her." Velkan knew he was taking a risk by letting his secret out of the bag, but he felt comfortable around the younger wolf. She was of no threat to him. It would be easy for him to overpower her if a fight were to happen.

The cat was out of the bag, so to speak. More like the dog out of the bag though. Pun intended. It was weird to think about that, having somebody teach at Hogwarts. To think, she was walking in the same footsteps as her grandfather. She imagined him being chained up somewhere, dungeons maybe, and suffering through a full moon. Abilene thought about the painful process she went through, the feelings she received, and the bitter, awful taste of Wolfsbane. All of which were awful topics to bring up. "It's present. But never completely expressed. Recessive, definitely." She paused, did she really want to get into her family life with a person who was practically a stranger? Whatever, Abilene didn't really care at this point.
She was pleasantly surprised when he spilled his guts before her. He was the first to actually admit to being something other than normal. To say the least, it would be easier on Abilene to own up to her rather odd DNA.
She couldn't imagine what it was like having a family full of werewolves. Buying that much Wolfsbane probably cost a paw and a leg. Or did they even use it? Did they run wild every full moon? Abilene never experienced that much freedom before. "I started out being just a quarter werewolf. That's easy to control. I'm quarter werewolf, and an eighth Veela, plus a witch." She paused to play with the book again, flipping through the pages. Abilene debated on whether or not she wanted to tell him her life story.
What did she have to lose? "I was attacked though. Three years ago, they thought it was Remus. Didn't find out until it was too late I wasn't. They practically left me for dead, a bloody heap of little girl on the pavement. My parents found me not soon after. I'm not sure if they were glad I'm alive, or upset of what I'd become. Either way, they started me on the Wolfsbane and locked me in the basement every full moon cycle. My grandpa was killed before my dad was born, so he wasn't raised in a werewolf household. They're better suited to raising a metamorphagus instead of a Veela-werewolf-witch baby." Her sentence kind of drifted off at that point, finding it a little awkward to carry on.
All of that time she had her eyes locked on the pages, her fingers absently flipping and bending the pages. She sometimes found it hard to make eye contact when they knew the real Abilene. "So, your mom.. I guess it was easier for her when it happened, huh?"

I Might Have A Reckless Streak At Least A Country-Mile Wide If You're Gonna Run With Me It's Gonna Be A Wild Ride Nodding his head in understandment that the wolf gene was indeed recessive in her family, that would have to mean that she would have been bitten in order for it to be expressed. He remembered his father telling a few years ago that the wolf gene could either be dominant or recessive based on a persons heritage. Those who had both parents dominantly expressing the wolf gene would dominantly pass it on to all their offspring. Those who had one parent dominantly expressing the wolf gene would express the wolf gene co-dominantly. Meaning that they would feel the effects of the Full Moon, but would never transform unless acted upon by another wolf biting them. This had to be Abilene's situation in his mind. And finally those who had no parents with a dominant expressing wolf gene, but had a paternal or maternal grandparent with a dominant expressing wolf gene too would feel the pull of the Full Moon, but would never transform unless acted upon by another wolf biting them.
It was a confusing process for him to try an understand at first with his father since his father did not have any examples, but as he continued to speak with Abilene, the more he began to understand what his father had told him. Upon hearing her full heritage, Velkan raised an eyebrow. Werewolf, Veela, and Witch," he spoke, "That is indeed an unique hertiage line. I'm half Werewolf and half Wizard. My siblings, the same. Our father is pure werewolf and our mother a pureblood witch turned wolf. Kinda amusing really. My mother is the first to bring actual magic into the family bloodlines." His mother was indeed one unique witch. She had denied any claims that her family had laid against his father and took the risk of jumping into the unknown world that was a Pack. Even as a witched turned wolf, she was still a force to be reckon with.
Listening on to her story of how she came to be a wolf, Velkan's earlier assumption had been prove correct. She had been bitten by another wolf therefore bringing the recessive gene into a dominant state. However, what he could not believe was the statement of her family's reaction. How could they leave Abilene to think that of them? Surely there had to be some reassurance they had passed upon to her. If there was none, than it was their loss. "Wolfsbane and locked in the basement," he chuckled softly, "No offense to you, but your family is absolutely clueless to what you are fully capable of especially since you are more mature. You are not a little wolf pup anymore. That basement door is not going to hold you back and certainly will not protect your family. Even if it does have charms placed around it. I bet you anything that the next time they put you down there even with the Wolfsbane potion in your system, that you will shred that door to pieces."
Velkan did not know how to put it any other way. Being locked in the basement might have sufficed when she was younger, but she was now a fully mature female wolf. Her strength would be double what it was several years ago. Her senses would be more acute and acturate. What Abilene needed now was more space to run and let the wolf be more free. Being cooped up was only going to make the wolf angry; Wolfsbane or not. Turning back to the subject of his mother, he smiled. "Yeah, it was indeed easier for her," he replied, "My father had placed his scent around her shortly before he had to leave for the Full Moon to ensure that the wolf in him knew that she was his mate and not mistake her as a potential kill. When he woke up the next morning, my mother was by his side smiling sporting what she called 'the mark of the wolf' on her left arm."

Abilene was definitely afraid of herself, there was no doubting that. She didn't know what she was capable of, and she never had anyone to actually tell her either. She didn't know what would happen on a full moon, and every month she dreaded it more than the last. Abilene had a feeling she was growing as a wolf, and that was even scarier than she initially thought. When Velkan said the door wouldn't hold her next time, it simply added to her fears. She couldn't imagine hurting her family, her siblings, her parents. But some part inside of her knew he was right. They kept her caged up, and that wouldn't hold for long. They were probably terrified of her, just as much as she was. The people she loved the most, fearing her. Abilene knew she was a monster, but what could she do? There wasn't a cure for her disease. Not in the least.
Then, she realized where she would be when the next full moon came around. She'd be here, at Hogwarts. Abilene could practically feel her heart in her mouth. "But next full moon I'll be.." She opened her book again, flipping through the pages and then shutting it. "At Hogwarts.." Abilene completed her thought in a mutter, deciding it was best not to talk about it and get herself in a panic.
When Velkan told her how his dad changed his mom, she couldn't help but feel slightly jealous. It sounded so loving, so romantic in a twisted sort of way. But Abilene was jealous of the guidance she must have had. She had people around her that helped her, understood her and completely accepted her for just as she was. Abilene didn't get that with her family. "Your mom sounds really lucky, to have somebody like your dad guide her and show her the way. I've just been stumbling around in the dark, hoping to find my way." Abilene paused to let out a little laugh. "I wish my marks of the wolf were so lovingly placed." She pulled off the sheer blue over shirt and tilted to the side, revealing her scars.
All along her shoulder and upper arm were scars of multiple shapes and sizes. The skin was pink and discolored, it looked as if it was stretched across in an odd fashion. She touched one of the larger ones. "You can imagine I have trouble celebrating the family holiday at the beach." With that, she replaced her shirt and smiled contentedly. She had to have at least a few positive things to say, or at least look happy.
